Please do a complete uninstall and then reinstall to fix the Error 2006.  Before you begin, backup your family file and multimedia (pictures, sound, video, etc.) to a safe place.

1. Browse into the Legacy folder on your hard drive (by default this is C:\Legacy) and delete all of the files, with the following exceptions: Do not delete the LEGACY.USR file and files that end with .LIC.  In addition, do not delete any subfolders such as Data, Docs, Geo, Pictures, Sounds, Videos.
2. Uninstall Legacy:

VERSION 7.5 & EARLIER: for directions please visit http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00682.

3. Re-install Legacy:

LEGACY 8: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadLegacy.asp.

LEGACY 7.5 OR EARLIER: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00899 and download the final release (build) of your version. You may also wish to read "How to Install Legacy 7.5 or earlier on a Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer" at http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00897.

When you reinstall, make sure that all other programs are shut down and your anti-virus and anti-spyware software is disabled.

4. When the re-installation is finished, Legacy will restart. Next reset Legacy’s temporary folder by clicking on Options on the menu bar, then selecting Customize and clicking the Locations tab. Click the Reset button for the Location of Temporary File.
5. Check/Repair your family file.  Click on File on the menu bar and select File Maintenance > Check/Repair and follow the prompts. If the error messages occur during the Check/Repair process, click No to continue with the repair.  Do step the Check/Repair twice if errors are found. If the Legacy works, you can stop here.  No further repairs are needed.  If the program is still not functioning correctly, proceed with the following steps.
6. Export your records into a new Legacy family file:

  1. Click on File > Export > Export to a new Legacy Family File.
  2. Give your new family file a name and click Save and the Legacy Export screen will open.
  3. Click the Privacy Options button to open the Privacy Options screen.
  4. In the lower half of the screen, under Override Private Settings, click the Check All button and then click Save.
  5. In the Legacy Export screen check mark Include general To-Do items and then click Start the Export.
  6. If the AutoSource Reminder screen opens, click the Don't Assign a Source button.
  7. The export will begin. When it's complete click OK.
  8. When asked "Would you like to open the file you just export to?" click the Yes button.
  9. Use the new family file and delete the old one when you are satisfied with the results.
