Sometimes when installing or uninstalling software that shares common system files with Legacy problems can arise. For example, when installing another program, a different version of a shared system file may be installed. In addition, when uninstalling another program, a person may say "Yes" to the prompt about deleting all shared files. As a result Legacy screens may suddenly appear black. In addition over time, computer files can seemingly become corrupted on their own -- possibly due to improper computer shut down or system problem.

There are a couple of approaches users have taken to fix black screens in Legacy.

• The Program Compatibility Assistant:

1. Right-click on the blue Legacy icon.

2. Select Troubleshoot compatibility near the top of the popup menu to open the Program Compatibility screen.

3. Click on Troubleshoot program.

4. Check mark The program open but doesn't display correctly and click Next.

5. Check mark Window transparency isn't displayed properly and click Next.

6. Click the Start the program button. It may take a few seconds for Legacy to start. Please be patient.

7. Check the Legacy screens and click Next.

8. If the problem is fixed, click on Yes, save these settings for this program.

• Re-installing Legacy:

1. Before you begin, write down your deluxe customer number. If Legacy is installed on a computer and the deluxe features are unlocked:

LEGACY: Click on Help > File Properties to open the Family File Information screen. Your customer number is listed here.

LEGACY 7.5: Click on Help > General Information to open the Family File Information screen. Your customer number is listed here.

2. Backup your family file:
