1. Close Legacy, then reboot your computer and try Legacy. Sometimes this is all you need to do.

2. Close Legacy and run the Legacy update from our website, even if you have the current update.  Go to http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadUpdate.asp

3. In Legacy, run File Maintenance - Check/Repair (File > File Maintenance > Check/Repair). Next try Legacy again.

4. If the error persists, export your records into a new Legacy family file, which you should use:

   (1) Click File on the menu bar and select Export To from the file menu.
   (2) Choose Legacy File from the sub-menu and proceed.
   (3) Give the file you will export to a new name and click Save.
   (4) The Export screen will open. Please click the large Start Export button. (If you get a message about sources, click Don't Assign a Source.)
   (5) Use the new family file and delete the old one when you are satisfied with the results.

5. If a Legacy family file is so damaged that Steps 1  and  2 can't repair it, then restore the file from your most recent backup copy.

You should make regular backups and test them. Please visit www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/tipsBackups.asp for step-by-step instructions.

6. Delete from the Legacy folder on your hard drive all files that end with a .USR and .DBM extension. Go to step 6 (reinstall). After restarting Legacy, you will need to reset any customized settings you made.

If you continue to have problems, please contact send in a Problem Report Form from our website at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Problems.asp or through the Legacy Home tab in Legacy "Report a Bug" link in the Support section, send an email to Support@LegacyFamilyTree.com.
