Export your file to a new Legacy file.

  1. Open your file and go to file menu at the top and choose export>Legacy file.
  2. In the following browse window name your new file at the bottom, browse to where you want to save the new file (I recommend the default location of Documents>Legacy Family Tree>Data) and hit save/open.
  3. In the following Legacy Export menu name set your settings as you want them and click privacy options.  In privacy options override all privacy options.
  4. Once you are happy with your settings hit start the export at the bottom right and once it is done open the exported file.

If exporting your file to a new Legacy file did not fix the problem try restoring from a backup that was created before this problem occurred.  Click here for a guide on how to restore from a backup.

If you do not have a backup try exporting a GEDCOM file from Legacy and then re-import it back into Legacy.  Keep in mind that if you export to a GEDCOM it will convert all source writer sources to basic sources.  So if you have many source writer sources this may not be something you want to do.

Export your records GEDCOM file:

  1. Click on File > Export > GEDCOM File. (If you have Legacy 7.5 or earlier click on File > Export To > GEDCOM File.
  2. Set your settings as you want them in the GEDCOM Export screen.
  3. Click the Privacy Options button to open the Privacy Options screen. (If you have Legacy 7.5 or earlier click the Privacy tab.
  4. In the lower half of the screen, under Override Private Settings, click the Check All button and then click Save.
  5. In the GEDCOM Export screen then click Select File Name and START EXPORT.
  6. If the Compiler Information screen opens, you can either add your information or just click OK.
  7. The export will begin. When it's complete click OK.
  8. Import the GEDCOM back into Legacy as a new family file. For more information see the article "How to Import a GEDCOM" at http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00493.
