You might not be able to combine/merge duplicates because:

• Combine would apply too many persons to the combined person.
One of the individuals has already been combined (Personas already merged).
• FamilySearch will not allow changes to information from LDS Church membership records.

The individuals are not the same gender.
• General failure. Candidates cannot be merged.

1. Click the Swap People button in the lower left corner of the Merge two FamilySearch Individuals screen and try the merge again.
2. If you still cannot combine, try unlinking the person from FamilySearch by clicking the Unlink person button at the top of the Legacy FamilySearch screen and then go through the steps of matching and combining duplicates again.
3. If you still cannot combine the duplicates in Legacy, go online to FamilySearch and combine the duplicates there.
4. Sometimes the inability to combine duplicates is a problem at FamilySearch, rather than a problem with Legacy.  You may see one of the messages below at FamilySearch.

If the problem is with FamilySearch, please contact FamilySearch Customer Service (https://familysearch.org/ask/help#customerService).
