"Error merging individual. Error number 400 HTTP/l.l 400 Bad Request. This error can occur if the individuals are related or are different genders"

You might not be able to combine/merge duplicates because:

• Combine would apply too many persons to the combined person.
One of the individuals has already been combined (Personas already merged).
• FamilySearch will not allow changes to information from LDS Church membership records.

The individuals are not the same gender.
• General failure. Candidates cannot be merged.

1. First click the Refresh button on the right side above the FamilySearch person and then click the Reload button to reload your Legacy person. Sometimes Legacy FamilySearch is holding on to old data and this will clear it out.
2. Next, try merging the duplicates again.
3. If you still get Error 400, click the Swap People button in the lower left corner of the Merge two FamilySearch Individuals screen and try the merge again.
4. If you still cannot combine, try unlinking the person from FamilySearch by clicking the Unlink person button at the top of the Legacy FamilySearch screen and then go through the steps of matching and combining duplicates again.
5. If you still cannot combine the duplicates in Legacy, go online to FamilySearch and combine the duplicates there.  Sometimes there is a problem at FamilySearch that won't allow you to combine two people.
