Screens do not fit properly or run off the edges of the monitor... Here are some things to try:

  • To close a window you can usually press the Esc key. The next time it's opened, it fits entirely on the screen.
  • You can use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Space, which will enable you to move, resize, or close the the window without exiting Legacy.
  • Try adjusting your Monitor's resolution and display sizes. On some monitors, display setting for 125% or larger causes screens run off the edges of the screen.
  • Open your Documents folder and browse into the Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\Usr sub- folder and delete the LEGACY2.USR file, which holds all of the window size and placement information. (A fresh LEGACY2.USR will be created to replace the bad one.)
  • Try the Program Compatibility Assistant.

1. Right-click on the blue Legacy icon.
2. Select Troubleshoot compatibity near the top of the popup menu to open the Program Compatibility screen.
3. Click on Troubleshoot program.
4. Check mark The program open but doesn't display correctly and click Next.
5. Check mark Program does not display properly when large scale font settings are selected and click Next.
Or, check mark Window controls appear cut off, or the program changes visual themes when started and click Next.
6. Click the Start the program button. It may take a few seconds for Legacy to start.
7. Check the Legacy screens and click Next.
8. If the problem is fixed, click on Yes, save these settings for this program.

  • The problem may also be the video driver. Since hardware manufacturers update their drivers frequently, the problem is resolved by visiting the manufacturer's website, then downloading and installing the updated drivers.
