Getting Started with Legacy FamilySearch

Legacy is fully integrated with the FamilySearchâ„¢ family tree website provided by the Family History department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It is one of the most heavily visited genealogy sites on the Internet.  Millions of people use FamilySearch resources to learn about their family history. FamilySearch access is free.

Legacy Family Tree is "Tree Share" Certified for FamilySearch Family Tree. This means you can share your Legacy information with FamilySearch Family Tree and of course pull information from Family Tree into your Legacy family file. Legacy's FamilySearch integration features are available in both the Standard (free) and Deluxe editions and work exactly the same in each.

Due to major changes at the FamilySearch website in 2014, please visit http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadUpdate.asp and update your Legacy program.  Without the update, versions of Legacy earlier than 8.0.0.439 (22 July 2014) cannot synchronize with persons in the FamilySearch Family Tree.  In addition, support for synchronizing with FamilySearch Family Tree is no longer available in Legacy 7.5.

You must have the FamilySearch option turned on in order to use the FamilySearch feature. You must also be connected to the Internet. To turn on FamilySearch integration in Legacy Family Tree 8.0, click on Options and select CustomizeNext click on 1. General Settings, then scroll down to 1.8 FamilySearch and check mark Integrate with FamilySearch.  If you are a member of LDS Church also check mark 1.9 Display LDS Options and then click Save.

When FamilySearch integration is turned on, small icons appear at the end of the names on the Family and Pedigree Views to show if that person's information is synchronized with the information in FamilySearch. These icons change to indicate the status of synchronization and temple work completion.

The FamilySearch search icon on the Search tab of the Ribbon bar can also be used to open the FamilySearch window with the current person in your family file as the focus person.
