Using Abbreviations in Location Fields

We encourage
Legacy users to spell out place names in full and never use abbreviations.
Abbreviation can be ambiguous and some individuals don't use the correct
abbreviations, or just make them up. • USA is the
abbreviation for both the Union of South Africa and the United States of
America. Please spell out the country name in full.
• Bellevue, WA
could refer to either Bellevue in the state of Washington, or to Bellevue in
the state of Western Australia. Please spell out the state in full and be sure
to add the country. • The correct
abbreviation for the state of Nebraska is NE. Some people inadvertently use NB,
which is actually the abbreviation for the province of New Brunswick. Don't use
abbreviations and you will never make this kind of mistake. There is plenty
of room in Legacy's location fields to spell out in full place names with all jurisdictional levels: city, county, state/province, country. If you will do
this there will be no confusion for others who read the information you enter
into Legacy.
