Merge is not finding all possible duplicates

Sometimes the Merge Duplicates feature will not find duplicate records of people. You know there are duplicates records because you have seen them, but the information is entered with spelling variations or other differences that are just too great for Legacy to detect in a Normal Duplicate search. In these situations you can do a manual merge by clicking on Tools and selecting Merge Duplicates > Manual Merge and find the individuals to merge in the Name List. For further guidance click the Help button.

You can also do a series of Normal Duplicate searches and change way Legacy looks for possible duplicates each time.

1. Start by clicking on Tools > Merge DuplicatesFind Duplicates.

2. Do a backup as prompted.

3. Next, click on the Normal Duplicate Search tab.

4. Then click Reset and confirm the action.

5. Next Click the Continue button and follow the prompts. Please do not hesitate to click the Help button for additional information.

When the this first Merge session is complete, you are ready for the next one. For the second Merge session, do another Normal Duplicate Search.

6. Uncheck Check birth dates. Day range.

7. Check mark Check chr. dates. Day range 180 and also check mark Include blank christening dates.

8. Click the Continue button and follow the prompts to complete a Christening merge session.

9. Next repeat your Merge sessions by unchecking Check chr. dates. Day range 180

10. Check mark Check death date. Day range, etc. until you find no more duplicates.

11. Do a final Merge session for burial dates.
