Sometimes burning a file to disk (CD or DVD) can be a challenge. Here is a quick and simple way to do it. When creating GEDCOM files, backup files, family file copies or a folder with files within it, save them to your desktop screen. They will be easy to find; there won’t be a need to search your hard drive for them.

Here are the easy Windows steps to burn a file or folder on your desktop to a disc:

1. Put a new, writable disc into the CD or DVD tray. (If any windows open as a result, close them.)
2. Click once on the file or folder with the RIGHT mouse button. A popup menu will appear.
3. Click on Send To > CD RW Drive (or it may be designated as DVD RW Drive)
4. Follow the prompts your computer shows you. When done, Windows will automatically eject the disc.
5. Every make and model of CD or DVD burner is a little different. Please follow the manufactures procedures and recommendations for CDs or DVDs.
