How did "Legacy NFS Sources" get added to my Family Tree at FamilySearch?

Many users have mistakenly concluded their Legacy Family Tree program has added hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of sources to their Family Tree at FamilySearch.org without their permission. They base this assumption on the wording "Legacy NFS Source" seen in the Family Tree.

This faulty assumption results from not understanding how the term "legacy" is used in the world of computing technology and information systems.

In computing and information systems, legacy applications and data are those that have been inherited from earlier technology, in this case New FamilySearch (NFS). The term "Legacy NFS Source" means these are sources added to NFS in the past and subsequently moved to the Family Tree by the FamilySearch engineers.

To summarize, they are NOT sources that Legacy Family Tree has added to FamilySearch Family Tree without the user's permission. They are old sources from New FamilySearch.
