How to print a book or chart that traces only one ancestral line:

1. First, export all of the descendants of the ancestor into a new Legacy family file (this will be a temporary work-file).

   (1) Click File > Export To > Legacy File.
   (2) Give your temporary working file a name and click Save. The Legacy Export screen will open.
   (3) Choose Select records contained in the Focus Group and click the Edit Focus Group button.
   (4) In the Focus Group screen click Clear List and then click Add an Individual and Descendants.
   (5) In the Descendant Options screen click Change, then select your ancestor from the Name List.
   (6) Click Max, then select only Descendants (includes all descendants) and nothing else, and then click OK to close the Descendant Options screen.
   (7) Click OK to close the Focus Group screen.
   (8) Click the Privacy Options button to open the Privacy Options screen.
   (9) In the lower half of the screen, under Override Private Settings, click the Check All button and then click Save.
   (10) In the Legacy Export screen click Start the Export.
   (11) If the AutoSource Reminder screen opens, click the Don't Assign a Source button.
   (12) The export will begin. When it's complete click OK.
   (13) When asked "Would you like to open the file you just export to?" click the Yes button.

2. Next, export all of your ancestors from the file you just made into the final working version of your Legacy family file.

   (1) Click File > Export To > Legacy File.
   (2) Give your temporary working file a name and click Save. The Legacy Export screen will open.
   (3) Choose Select records contained in the Focus Group and click the Edit Focus Group button.
   (4) In the Focus Group screen click Clear List and then click Add an Individual and Ancestors.
   (5) In the Ancestor Options screen click Change, then select yourself from the Name List.
   (6) Click Max, then select only Direct Line Ancestors and nothing else, and then click OK to close the Ancestor Options screen.

3. Open the book report screen or chart screen, select your options and print.

Here are three important things to keep in mind if you get too many people in you report or chart:

1. In the Focus Group screen, click the Clear List button before you start. If you don't your Legacy export will contain everyone in each of the focus groups listed here. You only want one focus group listed when done.
2. When in the Ancestor Options screen, select only Direct Line Ancestors and nothing else. Do not select Entire Ancestor Line. This option is exactly like adding an entire family line and will take everybody connected in any way to the ancestor -- up or down or sideways in his or her family tree.
3. When in the Descendant Options screen, select only Descendants (includes all descendants) and nothing else. Do not select Entire Descendant Line. This option is exactly like adding an entire family line and will take everybody connected in any way to you -- up or down or sideways in your family tree.
