Error 6 - Overflow when importing a PAF file

1. First, please open the file in PAF. Make a backup copy of your .paf file by clicking the Backup button.
2. Because several users have had glitches in their .paf files that result in error 6 when importing into Legacy, next in PAF click on File and click on Check/Repair. Follow the screen prompts. If you find problems, follow these strategies listed in the PAF help system:

• The best thing to do is to restore a backup copy that does not have such errors.
• If you do not have a backup copy, perform the Check/Repair feature. It can fix some types of errors, but it cannot fix all of them. Please be aware that there may be a loss of some data, such as relationships, links to notes or sources, and so forth.
• You can also try exporting your entire .paf file to a GEDCOM 5.5 file, and then import that GEDCOM file into a new file. Doing so will usually correct most errors, but it cannot restore the relationships and links to notes or sources that were damaged.

3. You are now ready to import the repaired .paf file into Legacy.
4. When importing from PAF into Legacy Family Tree, no GEDCOM file is needed because Legacy directly imports the data from it. Just click on FileImport and then select PAF 2.31 or PAF 3, 4, 5 or Ancestral Quest and follow the directions on the screens. You can either select the PAF file yourself or have Legacy search and make a list of files to choose from. Click the Help button if you need more information.
