Error 508 - Cannot move temporary file to target zip file

Here are some possible reasons for this error:

• The target is a FAT/FAT32 partition and the Zip file is over 4GB in size. The maximum filesize on a FAT/FAT32 partition is 4GB. Also try reformatting your device to NTFS.

Make sure there is enough room on the disk or flash drive for the backup files, especially if you are backing up multimedia files (pictures, sound bites, video, etc.) which can be very large.

The existing Zip file on the target cannot be replaced because you do not have the filesystem permissions to delete/overwrite it.

This problem seems to happen most often when attempting to create a backup file on a flash drive. First, if your flash drive has a switch to protect the files on it from being overwritten, make sure the switch is set so that files can be written to the device (in other words unlock it) and then plug it in. This may be all you need to do.

If this fails, there is an easy work around. First, set the backup location in Legacy to your desktop screen and create your backup files there. Next, go to the desktop screen and right-click on your backup files. This will pop open a menu. Mouse over Send To and then select your flash drive or other removable device.
