For Error 3024: "Error Opening Picture Information Work File" or "Could not find file 'C:\Legacy\Temp\LG~0.dbm'" or similar message, please follow these steps:
1. With Legacy closed, go to the Legacy folder on your hard drive. Delete the Legacy3.dbm file.
LEGACY 8 or 9: Open your Documents and browse into Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\DBM
LEGACY 7.5 OR EARLIER: Browse into C:\Legacy
2. In each folder where you have stored your pictures that are linked to the Legacy file, you'll find a PicList.dbm file. Those need to be deleted also. Here are the default picture/media paths (yours may be different):
LEGACY 8 or 9: Open your Documents folder and browse into Legacy Family Tree\Media
LEGACY 7.5 OR EARLIER: C:\Legacy\Pictures
3. Next update Legacy Family Tree from the following link:
LEGACY 9: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadLegacy.asp
LEGACY 8 OR EARLIER: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00899 and download the final release (build) of your version. You may also wish to read "How to Install Legacy 7.5 or earlier on a Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer" at http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00897.
Please temporarily disable your Internet security (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware, spam blockers, popup blockers, etc.) because some very aggressive Internet security programs may remove system files that Legacy needs to run or block Legacy from reaching the Internet when trying to download.
NOTE: Deleting the PicList.dbm file didn't help for one user so she moved all of her photos to a new folder, deleted the old one and moved them back, and deleted the path in the Legacy program, created the new one and it worked. If you save your family file in a different location, please check there.
