1. Make sure that your printer is turned on and that it’s properly connected to your computer. If you are on a home network, make sure the printer is available across your network. Then reboot your computer and retry printing from Legacy, this is often all you need to do and the error will not repeat.

2. If your printer is wireless, reset the modem by unplugging it for one minute and then plug it back in.

3. If your printer is connected to your computer indirectly through a multi-port USB adapter or by way of a wireless printer driver, try connecting the printer directly to the computer.

4. Click on the  blue circle (or the System Menu depending on design style chosen) in the upper left corner of Legacy and select Printer > Print Setup. If you have Legacy 7.5 or earlier, open Legacy and then click on File and select Print Setup. Make sure that your printer is selected. Try printing again.

5. Reinstall Legacy with the latest build from our website. Don’t uninstall; just run the installation again over your existing program. When you do this, your Family File(s) will be protected. Make sure you have all other programs shut down, including security software, when you reinstall Legacy. You can reinstall Legacy by visiting:

LEGACY: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadLegacy.asp

LEGACY 8 OR EARLIER: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00899 and download the final revision (build) of your version.

6. Open your computer’s Control Panel and select Printers and FAXes. Next highlight your printer, then delete it, and then reinstall it. Make sure it is set to be the default printer and reboot your computer. Please do this step, even if other programs are printing OK because some users have reported this fixes the problem.

7. If that does not work, then delete your print driver and download the print driver by visiting the manufacturer’s web site.  This step often fixes strange problems because there are sometimes newer drivers available for your printer. Please do this step, even if other programs are printing OK.

8.  If you have Windows 10, you have done the above steps and the problem still occurs open your start menu and type in settings.  In Windows Settings select Devices.  In devices on the left side select printers and scanners.  In printers and scanners make sure the option to "Let Windows manage my default printer" is unchecked.
