Legacy follows standard Windows file naming conventions. A file name can contain up to 255 characters, including spaces. It cannot contain the following characters: \ / : * ? " < > |
Although Windows file naming conventions allow for a periods ( . ) we discourage their use, except to separate the extension from the file name proper (for example, Smith.fdb).
Periods in included within the file name (for example, Thomas W. Smith.fdb) can "confuse" the program when trying to create backups or GEDCOM files and generate error messages.
