Text files - Legacy9update[1].txt and news9[1].txt - open when Legacy starts.  How do I stop this?

Legacy uses Internet Explorer as its internal web browser.  Some settings need to be changed to their defaults.  Start Internet Explorer (even if a different program as your default web browser). Next click Tools (the gear button) > Internet Options > Advanced tab.  Click the Restore advanced settings button and click OK.

Do you have NoteTab Light, or a similar text editing program, installed on your computer?  If so change the Windows file association from it back to the Windows default Notepad.

1. Right-click on NoteTab Light, or other program, and select Properties > General tab > Change.
2. Select Notepad from the list of recommended programs and click OK.
3. To close the Properties screen click Apply and OK.

Do you have a program called FreeFileViewer installed?  If you have FreeFileViewer, uninstall it from the Control Panel.  Optionally, if you really like this questionable program, open FreeFileViewer and go to preferences and uncheck the .txt extension option.  This should stop FreeFileViewer from calling the text files when Legacy is launched.

More about FreeFileViewer:  FreeFileViewer runs in the background monitoring every program you open and website you visit.  During installation, Norton (and maybe a few other Internet security programs) flag it as a Trojan and stop it.  Why?  The FreeFileViewer installer uses InstallIQ.  It will install toollbars and other software (Potenially Unwanted Programs or PUPs) if you are not watchful.  The makers of InstallIQ themselves tout "Advertisers & Publishers – Learn more about generating revenue and traffic from your Windows application using InstallIQ™."

One reviewer explains, "InstallIQ allows the developer to earn revenue from a free program.  InstallIQ sets cookies on your computer (no big deal) and it makes changes to your registry.  This means InstallIQ earns money from somewhere – most likely advertisers.  This smacks of adware to us – and with the registry entry and cookies – it looks like InstallIQ comes close to being spyware too.  We didn’t download FreeFileViewer because of its installation methods.  We don’t recommend that you do either."
