To do a clean uninstall of Legacy which will completely remove all traces of the program from a computer:
Before you begin, see How to backup user customization files.
1. Close Legacy Family Tree, Legacy Charting and Legacy FamilySearch.
2. Right-click on the Legacy icon on the desktop screen and select Open file location on the popup menu to open the Legacy program folder.
This is the quick and easiest way to open this folder. If for some reason you must manually browse into the Legacy folder, it's located at:
• 32-bit Windows computers browse into C:\Program Files\Legacy
• 64-bit Windows computers browse into C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy
2. Find and run RemoveLegacy.exe by right clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator from the pop-up menu.
3. Click the Uninstall button.
4. If you have not done so already, close Legacy Family Tree, Legacy Charting and Legacy FamilySearch. If you have an earlier version of Legacy running, close that also and then click OK.
5. Make note of your Legacy customer number. You will need it if you plan to re-install Legacy Family Tree 8.0. Click OK to close this screen. You are done.
6. When finished, the Legacy program will be completely removed from Program Files, from the Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) tool in the Control Panel and from the computer's Registry. The only items which will be left are the files in Documents that you created -- your family files (data) , your pictures (media), books, charts and Webpages. These will be in the Legacy Family Tree sub-folder.
