We do not know all the causes of the "Error loading type library/DLL" problem. It might occur if an antivirus has incorrectly marked a Legacy system file as being infected with a virus.

1. Restart your computer and try Legacy again.  If it works, stop here.

2. Run your antivirus program to remove viruses and other threats from your computer.

3. Remove spyware from your computer. Spyware is a threat that many anti-virus applications usually do not cover. Visit http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/ for an excellent, free spyware removal utility.

4. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus program while using Legacy.

5. Remove/uninstall your current antivirus program and replace it with AVG Free. Please visit http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage. In addition, if you have a firewall program, remove it and use only the Windows firewall. (We had a user recently who had a Legacy internet problem because she had 3 antivirus programs and 2 firewalls running on her computer. Uninstalling the redundant security programs fixed the problem instantly.)

6. Please uninstall Legacy Family Tree completely. Please visit Uninstall - how to do a complete and totally clean removal of Legacy. Next re-install your Legacy program. Please visit http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadLegacy.asp and and download Legacy Standard (free) which has the Deluxe features hidden inside it and does not require you to buy the program again. Use your Legacy customer number to unlock the Deluxe features.

7. Try a Windows System Restore. For directions, please click this link: How do I do a Windows System Restore to undo changes to my computer? This may be a good option if you updated your Windows operating system or updated Legacy and then DLL error suddenly appeared.

8. Run the Microsoft Safety Scanner.  Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx.

9. Try http://support.microsoft.com/fixit. Under (1) Select a problem area click "Top Solutions"; under (2) What are you trying to do? select "Fix performance, errors or crashes"; and then under (3) Click Run Now for "Fix Windows system performance problems on slow Windows computers." Follow the screen prompts and accept the defaults and choose the recommended actions. (These steps may or may not help your DLL error, but your overall system performance will be better.)
